Crap Internet Spelling

Please people stop writing "alot" when you mean "a lot"!

There is no such word as "alot". There is however a word spelled "allot", which means to assign certain things, tasks or people to other certain tasks, things or people.

Note, though, that you cannot "drive your car allot", or "surf the internet allot" or, indeed, "surf the internet alot".

Awhile

Though it is acceptable to write these two words, a while, as one word, it is often used incorrectly. For instance, Awhile is an adverb and is never preceded by a preposition such as for, where the two-word form a while is the correct usage.

You cannot stay in town for awhile, but you can stay in town for a while.

You can, however, stay in town awhile.

Still, for awhile is now in such common usage that it may be too late to save it, stop it at once before it's lost forever!

None of these are real words

Below are some common words seen on the internet, typed by people who cannot spell and probably never showed up for school very often, that simply DO NOT EXIST:

  • abit
  • alot
  • aslong
  • aswell
  • atleast
  • incase
  • indepth
  • infact
  • infront

Just stop it now before it's too late!

Not Strictly Mistakes, Just Pointless Phrases

Have you ever thought about the phrases "Free Gift Inside", or "join now and get a free gift!" and so on? Well, for those who don't know, a "gift" by definition is supposed to be free, if you had to pay it wouldn't be a gift!
